Artists

John Treur

"I have great faith in human potential. One of the things I enjoy most about being an artist is the human connection acquired through the creative process. I feel it is vital to draw upon the lives of others in my work and to express myself to others as well, in order to form a community and deeper understanding of each other. Another joy I have found through my work as an artist is being able to help others to see the world from a different perspective. I believe that art can be used as a tool to teach others about humanity and I strive to help others learn through my work.

I use a combination of hand building and wheel throwing techniques to create works that will stimulate the thought process of the viewer and hopefully form a connection with them. Through my use of various firing techniques I attempt to create a surface that will emphasize the form and support the message of my work. My hope is that the resulting art will leave a strong impression in the viewer's mind in order to make them think, use their imagination, and see the world from a broader perspective."
