Red Cedar Vessel
Red Cedar
5" h x 4.5" dia. | 2012
In the city of Brisbane where I live is a suburb called Kangaroo Point. It is a densely built-up area and among the many buildings a sole Australian Red Cedar was growing...and growing...and growing. Australian Red Cedar is a protected species, but this tree had to be cut down because it was becoming dangerously large and threatening buildings. After permission was granted, the tree was removed and I was able to obtain some of the wood. I wanted to make a piece that let the wood speak for itself – simple lines, layered grain, subtle color.
