These ceramic mugs were designed by Victoria Littlejohn
and luster fired by Tom McMillin exclusively for the Beatrice Wood Studio.
Victoria Littlejohn is a California native, who received her BFA and MFA from USC, where she studied with F. Carleton Ball and Susan H. Petersen. She went on to study with Marguerite Wildenhain and Peter Volkous, before working from 1962 - 1964 as a studio assistant for Tom McMillin. For over 35 years she worked as an independent artist with studios in El Segundo, Laguna Beach and Big Bear, California, before establishing a production pottery studio in Oregon where she spent 25 years supplying galleries and stores internationally. In 2012, Victoria Littlejohn was an artist-in-residence at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts and during that time created the molds for these mugs, modeled on the bracelets from India that Beatrice Wood collected and wore.
Tom McMillin was raised on a farm in San Fernando Valley and became a Licensed Sea Captain at age 18. He continued his college education in art while running sport fishing boats during the summer and received his MFA in 1960 from USC. He opened a ceramics studio in 1960 and worked as a full-time artist. He began teaching part-time at USC in 1964 and accepted a full-time teaching position as professor of art in 1965 at CSUN, retiring in 2000. Entrusted with Beatrice Wood's original luster glaze recipes, Tom McMillin luster fires works such as these in Beatrice Wood's studio to support the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts.

Ganesha is one of the best-known and most widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon, with devotees from many other religions including Jains and Buddhists. He is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles, as well as the patron of arts and sciences and deva of intellect and wisdom.
We have cast a number of works from Beatrice Wood's collection of folk art from India to produce a limited edition series of ceramic sculptures. "It seems to me that everyone has a desire to express, which is the soul crying out in song to reach something. It's wonderful to have the opportunity to make a pot, to paint a picture, to design an airplane, to feel that you can go out in a visible, creative way and contribute to life."
