The Opening Reception was held Saturday, August 31, 2019
Join us for the Opening Reception of Porfirio Gutiérrez’s exhibition on Saturday, August 31st from 2 – 5 pm for a presentation by the artist on the rich history of traditional Zapotec practices and knowledge. There will also be a special selection of additional works for sale, not included in the exhibition.
Porfirio and his family are masters of Zapotec weaving and come from a long line of dyers and weavers from Teotitlán del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico. They are among the last few families working to preserve the use of plant and insect dyes—techniques that stretch back more than 2,000 years in the indigenous Zapotec tradition.
