Previous Workshop
In conjunction with the exhibition, Lauren Hanson: Illustrative Ceramics, the artist will be presenting a hands-on afternoon workshop sharing her techniques for creating imagery with low-relief carving and incising. Lauren Hanson will prepare a series of small cups that will be “leather hard” and ideal for utilizing these processes.
Following a gallery tour and discussion of how these techniques allow the artist to produce her distinctive work, participants will return to the studio for a discussion on how to select imagery and develop their own personal approach. Reference books will be utilized as Lauren shares techniques for transferring images, with the majority of the workshop devoted to demonstrating and supervising students as they work. Participants are encouraged to bring their own image references, favorite tools, and their own pieces to carve if they prefer. At the end of the workshop, participants can take their works home to fire in their own kiln or leave them at the studio to be fired at a later date.
