Polly Giacchina
This hand weaving technique, knotless netting, can shape and curve around most any form, making it an interesting process to combine with ceramics or other materials for layering and texture. Participants will experiment with this technique with different media around small objects, to create pouches, vessels, and other forms.
All materials, shared tools will be supplied, but participants should bring small wire cutters, small needle nose plies and tapestry needle.
Polly Giacchina
Cost: $150. (Members $125.) – includes all materials and a communal vegetarian lunch.
This workshop is being presented in conjunction with the exhibition
California Fibers: A Closer Look.
THIS WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT
Polly Jacobs Giacchina was inspired at San Diego State University by Joan Austin and by artist Misti Washington of Solana Beach California.
Each gave a view of art and fiber materials that brought on the desire for exploration of woven sculpture.
Polly has gone on to exhibit nationally and internationally receiving awards and published recognition.
Inspiration comes from the environment and life experiences while using natural and industrial materials.
Polly's work, while creating undulating forms and shapes, is about finding, building and revealing new textures in the woven surface.
