Greetings from the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts
and The Happy Valley Cultural Center

I'm writing to invite you to attend two events at the Center:

The first is the Opening Reception for Currents: Contemporary California Clay on Saturday, June 6th, from 6 - 9 pm.

The exhibition will be presented through July 12th and will be presented online at www.beatricewood.com.

Nina Kellogg - Inside-Out

I hope you can join us for the Opening Reception - come and meet the artists and enjoy the ceramic art, a glass of wine and the beauty of Happy Valley as day turns to night.

Joan Rosenberg-Dent - Balance #1 and Fred Yokel - What is That

We're always happy to provide a reason to come and spend some time in Ojai and for those who want to make a weekend of it, we can recommend lodging, restaurants and places to visit while here.

The second event is our annual Swallow Song Music Festival on Saturday, June 20th at 7:00 pm.

This intimate evening of music under the stars was born of a visit by the composer Hans-Joachim Roedelius, who collaborated with the sound of the swallows chirping in the mud homes they create every year under the Center's eaves.

This year the event will feature three acts who truly embody the art of music:

Abby Travis

Los Angeles singer/songwriter, and underground fashion icon Abby Travis, will offer her intoxicating blend of glam-rock, trip-hop, soul and cabaret.

Audiometer

Audiometer, featuring Tommy Grenas and Michael Esther (both just back from a European tour with their band Farflung) will present a marriage of video and analog electronics.

Molly Zenobia

Molly Zenobia, one of our favorite singer/songwriters, will perform "music in the shape of your heart." Molly recently relocated to Boston and we are pleased to welcome her back to the Center for this performance.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Workshops:

The motto given to the Besant Hill School in Happy Valley by Aldous Huxley is "Aun Aprendo" (I Am Still Learning) and in the same spirit we offer educational experiences in the arts.

Painting by Jennifer McChristian

Recently, Jennifer McChristian presented a painting workshop in Happy Valley and is planning another for the Fall. For more information on this talented artist and her workshops, visit www.jennifermcchristian.com.

Standardized Stupidification Poster

As many of you are unable to attend exhibitions and events at the Center, we do our best to share them online. We are currently editing a short documentary on the recent Standardized Stupidification exhibition, which featured Los Angeles artist Robbie Conal in collaboration with Besant Hill School art students.

"It seems to me that everyone has a desire to express, which is the soul crying out in song to reach something. It's wonderful to have the opportunity to make a pot, to paint a picture, to design an airplane, to feel that you can go out in a visible, creative way and contribute to life.."
