My theme is animals, in this case the Congo Buffalo. I generally work
on a series of pieces, usually hoofed animals, often of a threatened or
endangered species. I drew one of these animals many years ago at
Brookfield Zoo in Chicago and I used the theme for some bronze pieces.
I felt I would like to return to it in clay. I wanted this wall piece
to express the feeling that the animal is stressed and contained by the
pressures of humanity, left fragmented by human expansion into its
territory, and by trophy hunting.
