Post-Neolithic Figurines & The Anthropomorphic Vessel Workshop with Allison Newsome
Thursday - Sunday, November 7 - 10, 2013

Post Pre-Pottery Figurine - Allison Newsome
Post-Neolithic Figurine | Allison Newsome

This four-day workshop will share information gleaned from a twelve-week workshop presented at Harvard by Allison Newsome, and is being presented in conjunction with an event at the Harvard Museum of Sciences and Culture, working within the Peabody and Semitics Museum, and a lecture she is presenting at the Boston Museum of Science.

The workshop at the Center will share Newsome's experience with these projects and explore Neolithic pre-pottery figurines (8500-5500 BCE) as a metaphor and point of departure for clay sculpture. Participants will also learn about Neolithic Figurines that coincide with pottery and the oldest pottery found in China and Japan, which dates to 20,000 BCE. The class will use a wide variety of techniques including basic clay building techniques, sculpting "Plein Air" and working from a live model to create immediate, small "bozzetti".

The workshop will be fun and informative and is open to beginners as well as experienced ceramic artists.
