There will be a hands-on demo using the Pigment Sticks as “ink” in printing from gelatin plates on to paper and other surfaces. Students will have ample time to work on their own prints using the gelatin plates. The wrap up will include storage of pigment sticks, clean up and information about storing prints for travel and preparing prints for exhibition. Artists from all levels and backgrounds will have a chance to see how this product can enhance their work or start a new direction all together.

Pigment Sticks are oil paint in stick form means that can be applied directly to a surface without the distancing factor of the brush. This makes it possible to dispense not only with the brush, but with knives, palettes, and solvents, thereby making oil sticks more immediate and portable than standard oil painting materials. R & F’s Pigment Sticks are formulated to be equal in quality to the finest oil paints. They are richly pigmented, with a lipstick soft consistency that gives them the same fluidity, subtlety, and durability of traditional oil colors.

R&F Pigment Sticks can be used as oil paint, with brushes, solvents and rags used once the paint is on the surface. They can also be used as a drawing tool, providing a wonderful bridge between drawing and painting. Their very nature causes artists to loosen up, use more color, and be spontaneous and gestural. Printmakers who have spent hours trying to mix colors with only nine or ten printmaking inks will find R&F’s palette of 91 colors liberating. Their immediacy, and mark making ability afford an endless range of options.
