Robert Christy - 'Plein-air' painting |
|
Robert Christy, an artist who specializes in plein-air painting, is the artist in residence for the month of May, culminating in an exhibition of his paintings of Happy Valley and the Ojai area. ‘Plein-air’ is a French term referring to landscapes painted out of doors with the intention of catching the impression of the open air. |
Bob Christy has been a full-time artist for 20 years, exhibited in numerous solo and group shows at galleries across the country. He has lived up and down the West Coast, from Seattle to San Diego, on the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin, and in Chicago. His art reflects the diversity of places he’s been and the friends he has made.
“I have painted cityscapes from a rooftop in San Francisco, seascapes on Big Sur beaches, portraits of skinheads in Santa Cruz coffee houses, and plein air landscapes throughout the Southwest,” says Christy, who also creates folk art pieces and abstractions.
