"Dreamy…a hypnotic experience. Carefully crafted psychedelic pop. Sousa’s beautifully textured arrangements swirl around Primeau’s velvety vocals." – LA MUSIC BLOG

"The songs recall ‘60s chanteuses, Primeau’s cooing straddling the space between remote and intimate while subtle musical shifts and smart lyrics avoid the suffocating nostalgia that imperils a lot of retro psych-pop…their debut roars a little bit, too." – BUZZBANDS.LA

"Pronounced ‘sumo’...their therapeutic brand of pop features hushed vocals over sparse beats and experimental sounds...a lo-fi score for a happy napdream." – FREE BIKE VALET

"What Sumeau have produced is an unconventional, challenging, but intelligent album. No two songs are the same, and the duo of Chris Sousa and Kat Primeau push the boundaries of what you think might be a pop, psychedelic, or indie folk tune." – THE REVUE

SUMEAU (pronounced sumo) wants you to join their cult. Founded by Chris Sousa ("Su") and Kat Primeau ("meau"), the LA-based indie pop band creates melodic mantras reminiscent of '60s psychedelia and surreal soundscapes of surprising simplicity and scope.

The duo met as staff at EastWest Studios, where a routine mic check led to months of after-hours sessions. The resulting self-titled album, mixed by Ben O'Neill (Fleetwood Mac, Garbage, Neil Young), received critical acclaim and inspired the cross-country "World Tour of America," with visits in Boston, NYC, Cleveland, Chicago, Boulder, Reno, and Los Angeles.

SUMEAU then recruited Molly Dworsky, Ian McAllister, Dan Macken, Julia Chalker, Harrison Lee, Alex Keenan, and George Chammas. Together, the 9-piece creates waves of sound greater than the sum of their parts, hypnotizing audiences at The Hotel Cafe, The Mint, SoFar, and The Satellite. They've showcased for the Audio Engineering Society, been guests on Jam In The Van, and were featured in the Red Bull TV documentary "This And Nothing Else."

SUMEAU returned to EastWest Studios in 2018 to record with engineer Tyler Shields (The War on Drugs, Justin Timberlake, Kamasi Washington). Their sophomore LP is expected to release in 2019.
