We are pleased to announce ZOOMORPHIC, a two-day workshop with Allison Newsome. Participants will be introduced to Newsome’s “once-fired” technique, creating sculptures in clay and utilizing Mason Stains. There will be a study of historic zoomorphic sculptures from diverse cultures in all media, from the first zoomorphic sculpture, a Paleolithic lion headed figure found in a cave in Germany, through the Sphinx to contemporary approaches. The workshop will also explore how zoomorphic forms can be incorporated into architectural projects.

Graeme Priddle has over twenty years experience in the woodworking field, best known for his sculptural turnings/carvings reflecting his life and environments in Northland, New Zealand.
This intensive workshop is for artists who are experienced with working in wood, and will cover a wide range of surface treatments and embellishment possibilities, including carving, texturing, pyrography, coloring, and multi-media approaches.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Lauren Hanson: Illustrative Ceramics, the artist will be presenting a hands-on afternoon workshop sharing her techniques for creating imagery with low-relief carving and incising. Lauren Hanson will prepare a series of small cups that will be “leather hard” and ideal for utilizing these processes.

This three-day workshop will include discussion, drawing, and the creation of ceramic vessels that will be raku-fired for participants to take home with them on the last day. Traditions and approaches to sacred vessels from diverse cultures through the centuries will be discussed, inspiring participants to find their own voice in creating their own sacred vessel.

This workshop explores the creative and collaborative processes involved in creating the book Shadow of The Turning. Binh Pho and Kevin Wallace will lead participants through creative processes from the conceptual to the technical and discuss the potential of collaboration as a means of expanding the possibilities.

This workshop will explore the figure in sculpture using hand-building techniques. A head will be constructed using the coil method and detail technical information on facial features and proportions will be demonstrated . The importance of bringing "self" into the work to allow a spiritual connection between the sculpture and the maker will be discussed and explored.

Join award-winning artist Jennifer McChristian in this fun and invigorating 5-day plein-air painting workshop. The aim of this workshop is to teach interpretation of the landscape in paint, using light and color to create form. Color relationships, design/composition, simplifying and the benefits of painting outdoors will be discussed, as well as how to design and build a painting that carries an emotional impact.

This workshop utilizes a Journal created by Binh Pho and Kevin Wallace based upon the books River of Destiny: The Life and Work of Binh Pho and Shadow of The Turning.
This workshop will be led by Kevin Wallace and participants will utilize the Embracing Destiny Journal as a means of exploring life through the process of journaling and opening up to the potential of creative writing and living.

Explore the role of the shaman in indigenous cultures through the use of ceramics. Learn how fetish objects and ornament have been used historically, while exploring myriad techniques for working in clay.
